Hairy Scary Hamish
Hey everyone,
So, A while back, my good friend Amy gave me a "Munny" for Christmas. It's an unpainted maquette, with which you are to do as you please (within the realm of decency of course). So I painted it up like a Hairy Scary Scotsman, and gave it back to her. Is that rude??? I couldn't decide for a while. Meh. Anyway, here are some photos of the process and final product.
Cheers!

The series is complete!.....almost
Here's the Blond and Red Head I promised.
The Brunette posted yesterday is in slight reconstruction.
The pure black hair is a bit overwhelming when next to these two in the series.
Happy long weekend Canada!!!

The Ol' Switch-a-rooooooo
This is acrylic on canvas, and was taken from an old sketch I posted a while back that Abby particularly enjoyed.
The photo kind of screws up the colours.
Her eyes are much brighter, but you get the idea.
A blond and a red head are up next!
Stay tuned...
Also, here's Abby's link if you're interested:

Here's hopin' there's a birdy heaven up there :(

So the neighbours may not have particularily enjoyed his less than subtle singing voice, but named after a legend like Leadbelly I would expect nothing less.
Good thing your wing healed up for the final flight.
May the blues rest your tragic soul in giant birdy heaven man! So long Belly.
You are missed.

Little Red delivers the 'cookies' to Big G.
Here's another post for Art Jumble. I swear it's the only thing that keeps me drawing these days. Meh.So the photo in the background I took in Toronto, near Bathurst just south of Queen. If your close by, you should check out the huge graffiti alley (if it's still there). The colours are amazing.

Re-dun
This is a new/finished (almost) version of a drawing I did a long time ago (posted earlier in my blogging career). Other than his demented hand, I think he'll stay this way. That's what I get for not using a pencil first I guess. Sighhhh. I just used some of those "Micron" pens and Tria marker. The usual I suppose. Not quite sure what's going to happen with the background...but when I find out, I'll let you know. Cheers!

Project: Drawing birds in trees
So, I spent Thanksgiving in Northern Ontario (the best place in the WORLD to be in the fall). The trees were stunning, so I went shutter happy with my sort'a new SLR. I spent lots of time stalking the local winged wildlife, and it inspired a project. I call it "Project: Drawing Birds in Trees".....very inventive, I know. Anyway, Here are some of my photos with birds I drew in black ink, then scanned and painted digitaly. Next I think I'll do some Deer....and maybe a Black Bear or two (not that I really saw any of those). I LOVE CANADAAAAAAaaaaa!

More painting on broken things
Here's another acrylic on broken furniture. It's concept stuff for a personal project in the works.
It's got monkeys in it. Coming soon...MORE COWFOLK!

3:10 to AWEsome!
My love for the cowfolk has been reborn with a vengance! (not that it ever really left in the first place). I recently went to see the film "3:10 to Yuma" and it was excellent. Seriously, even the score was amazing. A handsome film indeed. Here are my 5 minute Cowboy sketches. One or two are attempts at characters in the film, the rest are not. I have tons more, but these are the ones I liked most.
Cheers!

I like creepy stuff :)

Hey dudes! The ink sketch was a kinda old one I had lyin' around in the ol' sketch book. I just this morning, decided to turn it into a full blown movie poster. On the weekend I paid a visit to the 'Festival Of Fear' @ the Toronto convention center. There was SO much creepy fun to be had. I guess it kicked me in the ass and told me to keep drawing. I've got some sketches coming soon...
Cheers!

William's Coffee Pub
Here are some recent and over due sketches from William's Coffee Pub. A few friends and I decided to meet once a week and sketch till we can't sketch no mores. Seems to help with the.....I don't know......you know..........

I found this ol' broad on campus at Timmie's. I'm pretty sure she put 6 sugars in my coffee instead of 1, but she did almost hack out a rusty smile in the process. Meh.

Bilgewater Goes to Hell....
Finally done. There's still no text, mainly due to the fact that i'm CRAP at it, and also because i'm not exactly sure what it's suppose to say......meh. Something like "Bilgewater Goes To HELL! Friday at the Steve Allen Theatre!" If i get a finished one WITH text, i guess i'll post it up. I really love doing posters for these guys! If you get a chance, and are into quirky sounding dixie tunes, then definately look up 'The Bilgewater Brothers'. They play once every month at the Steve Allen Theatre in Hollywood.
Cheers!

Cheers!

A Good Day for Grim
That's it folks! The Doomsday Clock is now set to 5 minutes to 12!!! Time to get out those emission ridden cars to drive about town looking for things to nuke, whilst drinking from Styrofoam cups and depleting the ozone with your new haircut that requires 10 aerosol cans of hairspray! Onwards to midnight!!!Seriously though...Is this whole random world wide weather shift not eveybodys first clue??!

Flying.......or at least Trying
(black ink)My recent Hang Gliding stunt (refer to my photography blog) has been quite the inspiration for many drawings. This first one i hope to turn into a painting, but god knows how long that will take. This is "The Flying Eel Bog". She sort of looks like what would result from crossing Whiley Coyote, with me right after Hang Gliding. It was amazing!

Ghoul Babies
Hi guys. It's been a while since i posted anything new. Things got real hairy all of a sudden, but here's a little something still in the spirit of halloween. We all know baby's are creepy, but it was fun to make them even MORE so. That's all......not really feeling the creative writing juices flow at the moment. Later. And now for some Craniums....

The Count
Still on the whole Bram Stokers thing. I really loved the set design. I just wish Keanu Reeves was used more as a....background prop, and less of a leading actor. Maybe as a Decorative Lamp....or a Chamber Pot. Perhaps i am being too harsh.........nahhhh, Chamber Pot.Have a good one. Drawings are done in Black Ink and Marker.

Renfield and Mina
A tribute to Bram Stokers Dracula. I simply LOVE the characters in that story. It's just too bad somebody felt it really necessary to cast Keanu and Winona in the 90's remake. ESPECIALLY when they are surrounded by a freakin' all-star cast like Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins AND Cary Elwes ( from the princess Bride). I bet Bram himself wanted to rise from the dead and do some maiming of his own. Meh."DUDE!, You TOTALLY just bit me in the Neck!....WHOA." (what would have been the movie title if it were up to Keanu).

Both of these are Black Ink and Marker.

'Tis the Season!!!
It's TIME!! Well,... almost. Time to start celebrating Halloween. These are some doodles I did while in my comfy chair, waiting to hear from the boss. Drawing straight with ink is always fun. Once that pen hits the paper there's NO turnin' back! It always seems to make for interesting, strung out, and creepy looking characters. I highly recommend it.

Big Chief Fluffy Pants
I recently went on a trip to the Autry Museum, and it proved to be quite the good idea. Not only were there amazing costumes and artifacts from the old west, but there was this great photography exhibit going on called "Yosemite" which included artists like Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and Eadweard Muybridge. It's an exhibit dedicated to Landscape paintings and photography in the early 1900's. Amazing I say! Anyway, there was also a lot of old photographs on display of tribal chiefs, and cowboys, and things of that ilk. If you're in the area of the Autry, its well worth the trip for someone interested that is. The show's on till January I think.

IKEA Furniture makes for Guuuuud Canvas
I found myself hunting around the apartment for canvas this weekend, and being too lazy to go out and get some, resorted to painting on left-over and unused bits of furniture from Ikea. It took the Acrylic paint surprisingly well, and was a much more pleasant experience than painting on canvas anyway. It kind of took me back to rebellious and unruly highschool days. HA. (My apologies for the crappy Photos)

Last one, I swear....
I had to try it just one more time. Sorry for the penguin overload, but i've been drawing them for days. Just wanted to see if i could match up the style to the previous Leadbelly drawings. The awesome thing about Penguins is that they are already naturally simplified creatures. Good ol' Penguins. I actually tried making their faces look a bit like a fish, since they are so close to each other. Good ol' Fish. Good ol' Everything.
Okay, no more penguins.

I was looking through a boook called "Cartoon Modern" last night and it was pretty amazing. It actually made me WANT to draw in my spare time which is a rare occurrence these days. Anyway, the book is filled with animation designs and drawings from the 50's and 60's (one of my favorite eras EVER) and i highly recommend taking a look at it. (theres a link to the writers blog at the top of my list!)

Our Eskimo Neighbours to the South...

So, I was roaming about "youtube" and came across a "Talking to Americans" CBC Special report with Rick Mercer. It's a show where he travels around the states, asking random americans questions and trivia about Canada. In one of the shows, He wanders about the HARVARD University campus, and strikes up some conversation with one of the professors. Mercer manages to get the professor to say a nice warm hello to us all. It went like this..........."Hello Canada, Our Eskimo Neighbours to the South!" Spoken like a true Harvard Graduate and Prof! Hey, i'm sure no genius, but i still know where America is on a map.

LeadBelly
Hi Everyone.
I give you LeadBelly. He is the most Hard Core bird ever, and has complete free reign over the apartment and anyone who enters. He's firstly named after the Blues Legend (also Leadbelly), and secondly named for the fact that his feathers are still clipped from the bird shop, and looks like he's got a belly full o' lead whenever he attempts to fly anywhere. Not to worry, his feathers will grow back in a week or two, and he will be right as rain.
He still does not know how to rescue kittens from trees or burning buildings, but that will all come out in the wash.......and don't worry Jenn, i do not use your kittens for any practicing or tests............

Sunday Night Drive-In

A classic Canadian Drive-In Movie experience. Out in the middle of the woods, with the fuzzy dice on the mirror, abby spilling Tim Hortons tea all over her pants in the dark, me having to hang my head out the window to see the movie because of all the dirt on the windshield, and getting absolutely COVERED in mosquito bites, while the whole time waiting in fear for the run down car battery to die from leaving the radio on.....sounds dreamy doesn't it? Hey man, I wouldn't trade it.

i get a decent amount of down time at work between screenings, and find comfort in my new friend the Cintiq. it's a pretty amazing tool. i had problems letting go of my roots in using real paper and pencils.......i guess we all sell out once in a while. the light table has become quite a relic in my office, but every now and then i wander back to it for some inspiration.
